The Equality Act 2010 replaced existing anti-discrimination laws with a single act which was designed to simplify the law, remove inconsistencies and facilitate compliance.
Under the Equality Act 2010 LPFA is obliged to publish sufficient information to demonstrate its compliance with the general duty across its functions. LPFA has published three equality schemes covering race, disability and gender but also takes into account the new protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 via a combined action plan. The combined action plans aims to outline and collect data on the effect our policies and practices have had on our fund members. There has been a focus on communication improvements and as an example a system is now in place whereby a member’s record can be marked so they automatically receive large print versions of scheme publications. All Board and Committee reports have a section outlining how the decision may impact equality considerations, and project documentation contains a similar section.
Following a period of consultation LPFA has set Equality Objectives which are in place between 2012 and 2016. The objectives selected mirror LPFA’s strategic programmes and focus on accommodation reviews, communications and internal policies/procedures.
